Raiders release Rhodes

Alameda, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders released running back Dominic Rhodes on Monday, just two days after drafting running back Darren McFadden with their top pick.

Rhodes appeared in just 10 games last season, including two starts, and was limited in playing time after missing the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was signed by Oakland prior to the start of last season after spending his first six seasons in the league with the Colts.

He carried the ball a total of 75 times for 302 yards with one touchdown. He also added 11 catches for 70 yards. Over his seven seasons in the league, he has 2,576 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns along with 101 catches for 719 yards and a score.

The Raiders still have two backs with 1,000-yard seasons on their roster in Justin Fargas and LaMont Jordan, as well as last year's fourth-round pick, Michael Bush.

McFadden, the fourth overall pick in the draft Saturday, was the top-rated running back after amassing 4,590 yards on the ground along with 41 touchdowns in three seasons at Arkansas.
