Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - LSU announced on Friday that defensive tackle Charles Alexander has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.
Injury limited Alexander to just one game in 2005 and he also sat out 11 of the Tigers' 14 games in 2007. He applied for the extra year of playing time in January.
Alexander played in 13 games this past season, making eight starts. He notched 24 tackles and a sack in 2008 and will be the only returning starter to the Tigers' defensive line in 2009.
"We are very happy that the NCAA ruled in favor of Charles," LSU head coach Les Miles said. "He deserved to get the chance to play another season at the collegiate level. He will be a big part of our defense next year so we're glad to get him back."
In 28 games with LSU, 16 of those starts, Alexander has 58 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
