Rostock, Germany (Sports Network) - Ruslan Chagaev dealt Carl Davis Drumond his first loss by way of technical decision Saturday, in a heavyweight fight stopped after six rounds.

Chagaev (25-0-1), the WBA heavyweight champion in recess, suffered a cut above the left eye after an accidental headbutt in round three. The wound continued to bleed for the next several rounds, and referee Gustavo Padilla ended the fight after six rounds. Chagaev was ahead on the scorecards at that point, 58-56 from two judges and 60-54 from the other to take the bout over Drumond (26-1).

Chagaev was supposed to have a mandatory defense of his belt last July against Nikolai Valuev, but that bout was cancelled due to an Achilles tendon injury to the champion. Chagaev, who was then named "champion in recess", will face Valuev by June 26.

In the WBA light welterweight match, Andriy Kotelnik (31-2-1) made a successful defense of his title by split decision over Marcos Rene Maidana (25-1). The scorecards for Kotelnik were 115-113 and 115-114, while Maidana was ahead 115-113 on the third.
