(Sports Network) - Tiger Woods has something to celebrate, but it isn't his return to the golf course. Not yet anyway.
Instead, Woods announced on his official Web site Monday that his wife Elin gave birth to the couple's second child and first son, Charlie Axel Woods, on Sunday.
"Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts," Woods said in a statement on his site. "Sam is very excited to be a big sister and we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.
Sam Alexis Woods, the couple's first child, was born in June of 2007, less than 24 hours after he tied for second at the U.S. Open.
"I also want to thank our doctors, nurses and the hospital staff for their personal and professional care," Woods continued. "We look forward to introducing Charlie to you at the appropriate time, and again thanks from all of us for your kindness and support."
Woods hasn't played on the PGA Tour since winning the U.S. Open on June 16, his third U.S. Open title and 14th major. The 33-year-old, who owns 65 PGA Tour victories, underwent successful surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee eight days later.
