Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals have reportedly signed first baseman/outfielder Adam Dunn to a two-year contract.
The Washington Post is reporting that the Nationals are expected to announce the signing as early as tomorrow and SI.com places the contract's value at close to $20 million.
Dunn was traded from Cincinnati to the Arizona Diamondbacks in early August last season to bolster the latter's eventual failed run at a playoff spot.
He hit .233 with 32 home runs and 74 runs batted in over 114 games with the Reds, spending nearly all of his time in left field. The left-handed power hitter slugged eight round-trippers and knocked in 26 runs with a .243 average in 44 games after joining the D'Backs, splitting time between left field (nine games), right field (23 games) and first base (19 games).
Prior to the trade, Dunn had spent his entire career within the Reds' organization. Former Cincinnati general manager and current Nationals GM, Jim Bowden drafted Dunn in the second round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft.
An All-Star selection in 2002, the 29-year-old has hit 40 or more home runs in each of the past five seasons and has 278 homers with 672 RBI and a .247 average in eight big league seasons.
